We are delighted to welcome you to the 9th International Conference on Debris-Flow Hazard Mitigation (DFHM9), to be held on 14–18 June 2027 at KAIST (Munji Campus) in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.
Across Korea, where steep, forested mountains coexist with densely populated valleys, intense rainfall associated with the summer monsoon and occasional typhoons can rapidly trigger landslides and debris flows—making Daejeon, Korea’s renowned “science city,” an ideal setting for DFHM9 to connect cutting-edge science with practical risk reduction.
Since its first meeting in 1997, the DFHM series has served as a global forum for advancing debris-flow hazard mitigation, bringing together researchers, engineers, practitioners, and policy makers to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging challenges, and share lessons learned from real-world events. DFHM9 continues this tradition, building on past conferences held across North America, Europe, and Asia, most recently in Golden (2019) and Torino (2023).
Reducing debris-flow risk requires integrated approaches spanning fundamental process understanding, monitoring and early warning, hazard and risk assessment, and the design and evaluation of mitigation measures. The DFHM9 program will feature plenary and keynote lectures, technical sessions, poster presentations, and dedicated time for discussion and networking. We also look forward to welcoming you through social events and field activities that highlight Korea’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage.
